Enjoying the pictures taken with my Rebel camera.
Beautiful flowers! You are doing very well with your new camera.
I'll bring it to SML and get some good pictures there, too!
You are certainly surrounded by beauty in that valley in Cullowhee. I am glad you are able to enjoy it and also to share it on the blog.
Ginger is right, you are getting good with that camera.
How did the interview with the doctoral student from NCSU go yesterday? Tell, tell!
I talked to Teresa last night. They wii be leaving for Ga tomorrow for the big event on Sat. Joey and Brenda will be going down on Friday. I wish we could all be there to see this couple take the big plunge. Safe traveling everybody and best of luck to the newely weds(to be)
Hopefully Uncle Pat will be coming here Friday . I'm supposed to meet him at the bank about 2 o' clock. I'll be there with my gun and ready for action.. Friday evening Uncle Pat will be having a dry land fish sandwich and fried green tomatoes for supper plus we will have lettuce, onions, soup beans, fried potatoes and cornbread. Can't beat that with a stick, can you? Mick and Merl will be eating with us.
Thankful that Rick is doing better. It's good that it was just a warning so now he can slow down and take better care of himself like we all need to do.
Here is the scoop! The website is www.peoplefirsttourism.com. It is a project by the NC State University in conjunction with the tourism industry. "Ultimately, through this online marketplace, local communities are encouraged to own their tourism valuable resources and earn income that stays locally, while travelers enjoy more authentic interactions within the local community and environment."
Now, I don't like the idea of people paying to come sit on my front porch and listen to my music. I would like it to be a way of meeting and sharing with people. I would not be doing it for financial gain. My income needs are already being met.
They have asked Conard to offer tours of the farm and storytelling, but Conard declined. He did say he would demonstrate apple butter making in the fall if visitors were interested in that.
They want me to offer front porch sing alongs which I would love to do! I'm glad Conard agreed to be involved. It would be awkward for visitors I think, if it were just me! When a "tourist" visits that site, they can click on "Browse Services" and see a map of where services are offered all over the world. If a tourist wanted to visit NC, they would then click on United States, then NC, then Smoky Mountains and would be able to see various places they would visit one-on-one.
Following the above instructions, check it out on www.peoplefirsttourism.com. Let me know what you think. It's interesting, unique way to meet people from anywhere and everywhere, but it's also a little scary........ anyone interested would have to text me first to confirm the visit. I could always say no ........ and it would be at my convenience........ I think I am exhibiting my "long-headed adventurous nature" maybe a little too much.
Your adventure sounds interesting, You have talent so use it to the fullest and why not make some money while you are at it.Sounds good to me.
Betty, you could rent your cottage to tourists for a few days at a time or a week at a time. You probably should charge a fee for your front porch activities in order to make that project a success. It wouldn't have to be much and you could always donate the money to something.
Yeah Diane, she could put that money to good use, like take her sisters on vacation somewhere. :-) That's a good idea on the rental house too. Do it Betty!
Ok, Sisters! You have convinced me. I had thought about using the rental house in this same venture. I haven't convinced Conard of that yet. I'm still working on it. What a unique adventure that would be - my friend from Fairfax (Karen) who came to visit last year told her friends that we have cows in our front yard. Guess she didn't realize there's barbed wire and electric wire all around the pasture surrounding the front yard (and the rental house). Great idea!
Jan, if this is successful even my sisters could come here (no pay), stay in the rental and we could make day trips to local waterfalls and thrift stores! Oh, boy, now I'm getting excited.
Yeah! Exactly what I had in mind. :-) I would love to be there at harvest time so I could help the Mexicans with the tomatoes.:-)
I had the most peaceful day yesterday. It felt like a little touch of heaven. I was around the hill at Barry's staining a couple of beanches that Gillis had made for him. Just me, the birds and God Well, I'm sure there was a few deer in the woods peeping through the trees at me and I think I could hear a bear smacking his lips ever now and then but I didn't let that ruin my day.I stayed right there until I used up all my stain. I love it around there.Even though I was working it was a much needed relaxing time. Relaxing and working is not supposed to go together but it was the right combination for me yesterday. L-o-v-e-d It. I had a good day today too but not nearly as relaxing. I had a yard sale . Enjoyed it until it got to hot.
Happy Birthday to my sweet little no 3 daughter, Amber. She has had to face some big challenges in life and she has come through like a trooper every time. She is a great Mom and daughter. She makes us proud.
Happy Birthday Amber!
Happy Birthday, Amber!!
OK - the info is up on the tourism website. Check it out. https://www.peoplefirsttourism.com/services/110/. Don't know why I can't link this to the web site - guess you'll have to copy and paste.
You can highlight: https://www.peoplefirsttourism.com/services/110/, then right click and "open in new window".
Uncle Pat left for Nannies about 8:30 this morning,He seems to be doing pretty good.He will come to Micks this evening, We will go eat with them if I'm up to it. I don't know what I've done to my back but I'm miserable, Can't sit very long and can only lay one way so today is a day of rest and try to get back to normal.
I'll try to check out the website today while I'm taking it easy .
Glad Uncle Pat made it. Hope you are having a wonderful dinner at this very moment. Wish I was there.
Jan, you work way too hard!
I left Micks at 8am got home at 130 doning ok
Did the trip wear you out, Uncle Pat?
Put your feet up and get lots of rest. Love you very much!
I had to make a quick run to the ER last night. My blood pressure got out of control for some reason. I don't know what but it has gone from 207/95 to 104/65 this morning. I have been having problems with my back. The pain may have caused it and I do have a Urinary tract infection. My back is feeling better for now but it was a bear last night.
We had a good visit with Uncle Pat. He looked good, ate good and stayed up later than usual. I believe he is on the mend. I wish you all could have seen him with his dryland fish sandwich. He makes it look so delicious.
Jan, that is SCARY! Hoping and praying you are feeling better and putting your feet up more!
I think Uncle Pat drove all the way from Ohio just for the sandwich! I've never had one like that - hope you find more of those special mushrooms next spring! Can't find them here.....
They are so good
Happy Birthday Joey
Happy Birthday Brother Joey! Is this the big 55????
Happy Birthday, Joey!!!
Happy Birthday Jo-Jo!! You have heard of a spring chicken, well you are still just a spring rooster.Slow down, take it easy and have a good one. Love ye!
Thanks sisters, Kathy Gail and Ginger, for the phone call yesterday. I'm still kicking but maybe not as high. I geuss Rick is right, sometimes our check engine light comes on and we better take heed. I think I have had too many irons in the fire. Glad Rick is doing okay.
Happy birthday, Joe B. I hope it was amazing.
Jan, we were worried about you. Going to ER is a pretty drastic move for you, so we thought you were having serious problems. We hope your blood pressure stays low.
Yep, it was great to see Rick and spend a little time with him. He came bearing gifts as always -- lettuce and onions this time. So good!
We've had good times this week with Ginger and Lanny here. It will be sad to see them leave. I think they are staying until Thursday.
Jan and Micky, you guys must have been really good to Uncle Pat. He sounds like a brand new man on the phone!
I think U. P. is a brand new man and if his house doesn't sell I think he should do like he said---buy it himself. :-)
Kathy Gail and Ginger, I probably didin't make sense when I talked to you all the other evening. It gets a little crazy around here in the evenings especially at supper time. It is a little scary when your blood pressure keeps climbing ever after you have taken your medicine and have been laying around all day, They brought it down real quick. Did blood work and an EKG. Said the EKG did show a little something but nothing to worry about, but have an EKG about once a year to keep a check on it. I have felt better today than I've felt in a week but still nothing to brag about. My blood pressure is sorta like a yo-yo. Momma's can't get sick, can we? "Ain't nobody got time for that!":-) :-)
