A lot of prayers are being prayed for Gail this morning. There is power in prayer. Keep us updated
Just got the call from Ginger. Kathy Gail came out of surgery at 10:30 - will be in recovery room until around 1:00 before anybody can go in to see her. Won't know anything more until Ginger goes in to see her. I'll post again this afternoon.
10:50 am. Just talked to Cliff. He said the surgery went well. They are going to take Gail to a room on the 5th floor in a couple of hours. Don' know the room # yet.
Got a call from Ginger around 1:00 p.m. - Kathy Gail is awake; is in her room and is wiggling her fingers in response to questions. Surgery appears to be successful. More to follow as I get updates.
Thanks to God for His blessings.
Amen. God is so good.Just had a call from a church lady to see how Gail was doing. She had put her on all the local churches pray chain. I could feel it working.
For those of you who didn't know about Kathy's situation: She has deterioration of the vertebrae in her neck causing that part of her spine to close in on the spinal cord. The squeezing of the spinal cord results in nerve pain in her arms and hands, muscle weakness, and lack of balance. Hopefully, this surgery will give him much needed relief from the pain.
Thanks for the prayers - please continue as she heals!
Lots of Love to friends and family.
So glad Kathy Gails surgery is over and she is doing okay. Thank God for answerwd prayers. Mick kept me up to date today. I didn't find the comments on here until now . I hope how soon she is much much better. LOL
Great News! Kathy Gail is being released from the hospital TODAY! Ginger called and said that she is doing much, much better than expected. However, she is in pain right now but that should subside as time passes! She is walking, talking, drinking liquids and even eating a little!
Ginger and Lanny are celebrating their 32nd wedding anniversary today. They will be staying at their "place" in Culpepper and will be available to help Kathy Gail with anything she needs. Also, Cliff is there with her fluffing her pillow and holding her hand!
Thanks and Praises!
Update: 11:30 a.m. - Kathy Gail released from hospital and on the way home. Doctors say tomorrow will probably be her worst day for pain and swelling in her neck - then she shoul begin to feel a big difference.
Glad all is going well and hopefully the worst is behind. Each day should make a difference.
Praise be to Jesus for Kathy Gail's progress and happy anniversary to Ginger and Lanny.
Great news about Kathy Gail. I am amazed that she is well enough to go home. She is probably really not but these Insurance Co's determine the stay in the hospital.. Praying that she continues to improve without any problems. They should have kept her one more day until the worst pain was over.
Happy Anniversary Ginger and Lanny!! Hang in there and you will catch me and Gilly.
Kathy Gail having a bad day with the pain and swelling in her neck. Hopefully, by tomorow, she will begin feeling great relief.
Makes me want to cry. She should still be in the hospital on lots of pain medication and not feeling a thing. I just can't imagine how miserable she has to be. I'm sure she is on some pain medicine at home but with a surgery like this you would think she should be heavily sedated for awhile.
I know what you mean, Jan. Makes me feel the same way. She is on pain medication that helps her sleep, but I think it's terrible they sent her home knowing the worst pain was yet to come. Terrible!
You guys are breaking my heart! The surgeon had to do things that made me feel worse before I could begin to feel better. He told Cliff he had to use a "surgical crowbar" to remove the bone spurs and restore space between the vertebrae before replacing the discs. I kept saying I felt like my neck and shoulders were in a vice -- they actually were!
There have been some bad moments regarding pain and some worse moments, but I have had the best nursing team here in the cabin (Ginger, Cliff and Lanny). And I believe I have just turned the corner!
I'll put an update on the blog tomorrow and I am anticipating the news will be all good.
Dear Miss kathy Gail,
There's a couple ol' boys in Ohio are praying for good news tomorrow. And that's fer sure, toooooo!!!!
Hope tomorrow is a better day. Glad to see you are able to to get on here and respond. I beleive you are as tough as our Mother....apples don't fall far from the tree. Lots of love!!
Things are looking up here in Richardsville, Bob. Since the nursing staff couldn't come up with a call button, they gave me a Turkey Call as a substitute. Now, just try to stay sick under these circumstances. Which turkey should I call first?
I will be taking a double dose of pain meds and heading for bed soon. It is very clear I will need my rest to keep ahead of the nurses!
Good night everyone and thanks so much for all the good wishes and prayers. I can feel myself being uplifted.
I am so thankful that surgery went well. It's must be hard to deal with the pain, but no pain after something like that would probably be a bad thing. Mercy in disguise. So glad those spinal nerves are awake! Love Ya Much.......
Much wisdom, Teresa! I never though of it that way. Mercy in disguise is a good thing!
Bailey and I are at it again -- working hard on recovery. We got up early for meds and a little exercise. When Uncle Pat called at 7:15 I was able to talk to him for a moment. That was sweet. Now it is nap time I will send Betty a picture to post a little later.
Glad that your surgery is over and you are on the road to recovery. You will be as good as new before long. I had surgery for "Lumbar Stenosis" back in October and getting better all the time. God put some pretty bright people (doctors) in our path along the way.
Spoke with Uncle Pat earlier and he is getting ready for your visit.
Wish you the best and a speedy recovery.
Glad you are feeling better . You are are up and at it early. Every day is a new day and closer to being better than new.
Kathy Gail, Glad Baily is helping you out but I have a feeling he is
Sorry! I was going to say I beleive he is in better shape than you are but let him keep helping You probably don't even have to use the turkey call for him. Looking forward to some pictures. LOL
Okay you "fellers", what is going on? No news worries me.
Jan, I couldn't call them yesterday because my phone "died". I had forgotten to charge it. Ginger is still in Culpepper. She has a doctor's appointment today. I can't get on the computer as much from work - I'm counting down the days - 18 to go!
We're coming to Pound for a week "after I retire". My retirement gift from Conard is a trip to the Ralph Stanley festival!!!!
Hey Guys -- Yesterday felt like one of those "steps backward" that people talk about. I tried to blog a few times and couldn't get it done. I was trying to cut back on narcotics and that wasn't working. Then I started taking narcotics again and and became, as Logan would say, a Pink Zombie! (Jan, I love the pajamas.)
If the center of my back, right between my shoulder blades, ever stops hurting you will hear a mighty happy roar. When I am not on meds, that pain is between a 7 and a 10, and it makes the rest of my body hurt.
You have to know Cliff to appreciate this story: I've been using ice on my neck and back since coming home last Thursday. This morning I got fed up with ice. No more cubes! No more crushes! I need heat!. I asked Cliff to apply thermal wraps to my back. Cliff peeled the adhesive off a wrap and slapped it on the back of my neck before I could say Tom Dooley. "But it hurts lo---------------" I started to say. "It hurts there." He assurred me as he patted the newly applied thermal wrap none to gently. Girls -- what am I missing? I needed his help so I stuck to my guns and pointed out the other areas of pain. Now I'm all wrapped and he went out with Ricky to get some stuff for work. It will probably take each of us the whole day to get over that episode. I really think it's a good example of how men and women communicate (or not) but I can't think about that too much right now, Betty Sue.
Ginger and Lanny are in Fairfax for the morning -- they still get medical services there and of course they go see Heather. They will be back here in the afternoon. Right now we don't know how the rest of the week will go. I expect that Ginger will stay here at least through the weekend. She and I are making plans to visit with uncle Pat some time this month.
kathy Gail. With all of Cliffs's help this morning I beleive now you are on your way to recovery Glad Ginger is still there with you. Heaven knows you need a womans touch. It would be nice if we could go to Uncle Pat's at the same time you and Ginger are there.
Betty, looks like you will be retiring and I will be retiring "again" about the same time. I have 15 more days. Hope you can come home for a week.and go see" Ralphie Poo". Maybe I can go too. I have never been. I have never been in the museum either.
That Would be very Good
Yes, it does sound good. I hae 16 more work days, Jan. Then,...... I won't know how to act. I'm coming home on the 24th or 25th and will be able to stay until the Tuesday after Memorial Day! Save your money - Ralph Stanley tickets are $35.00 a day. We can only afford one day's worth! Probably be Saturday!
Happy Birthday Lindsey!!! My second grandchild and first born granddaughter. Sweet seventeen today. Seems like only yesterday she was just knee high to a grasshopper.Such a funny, stubborn little girl. Now a beautiful young lady.
