The Collins Family Singers presented a program with an Irish Theme at the Mountain Rose Vineyard in Wise on March 13, 2010 at 7:00 pm. The food - Shepherd's Pie, Potato Biscuits, Corned Beef and Cabbage - all freshly made and hot and steaming made a wonderful meal on a cold March evening.  (The oatmeal pie and Green Sangharia weren't bad either!) There was a capacity crowd which made it feel like being in our living room when we were growing up on Bold Camp or even better, the way it feels now when we get together for family reunions!

With Kathy Gail as the MC, the program included Winfred Collins (the youngest of the Collins clan), his wife, Judy and daughters Kara, Alyssa and Maddie singing a beautiful version of "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" - they sounded like angels !

Uncle Pat Collins told a few of his favorite jokes, the most popular being:  "You've heard about being poor?  So poor, you don't have this or that?  Well, have you ever heard of a poor snake?  I know of a snake that was so poor it didn't have a pit to hiss in!"  (one lady fell off her chair she laughed so hard).

Hannah Collins played and Irish tune called Ashton Farewell on the violin, or fiddle whichever you prefer to call the instrument.  You know the the only difference is that a violin has "strings" and a fiddle has "strangs"!!   She was accompanied by Susan Mullins on piano.

Hannah along with Carolina Mullins, Malorie Mullins and Alyssa Shell clogged to an Irish jig called Road to Spencer.

Next Teresa Collins Collier introduced her first child (a wooden doll with limber legs and arms).  His name is Clifford.  Clifford danced to "Red Haired Boy" while Winfred kept the beat on the "wash board".  The crowd fell in love with Clifford.

Part II of the program featured songs written and performed by Kathy Gail and Betty Sue.  Teresa filled in for Vicky who couldn't be there.  This part of the program brought both laughter and tears as it told of the good and the bad times of life in the Appalachian Mountains - in ballad form, of course.  Winfred, Betty Sue and Kathy Gail accompanied the ballads with guitars.  Kathy's songs required audience participation and they added some great harmony.  Betty Sue's, of course, required a handkerchief to wipe the tears.

In Part III of the program, Hannah sang the most famous of all Irish songs "Danny Boy" - she was accompanied on the piano by Susan Mullins.  The crowd also feel in love with Hannah!

The program was closed out (as we do with all performances whereever we go) with everybody joining together to sing the well known hymn, Amazing Grace.

It was a wonderful evening.  We are receiving some reviews which we will post along with pictures when they are finalized.
